OUYA
Re: OUYA
You make a very good point about apple, but let us not forget the price difference, its $99 for OUYA, apple would never go that low, so OUYA might still stand a chance. Oh and OUYA already has 500 games ready and more in the making, so it might still stand a chance (yes I know the apple store has millions of apps
)

Re: OUYA
The apple tv is 99 right now and have sold millions haha. All it takes is a new version with a better chip set and a software update.. and bam.
It's not an actual tv, but a little box that streams video currently. Its similar to a boxee or other alternatives.http://www.apple.com/appletv/

Re: OUYA
Oh wow I didnt know that, I assumed an apple tv was much like the google tv a huge ass piece
That's pretty impressive I must say, and I would love to see Apple upgrading it for good game performance and releasing their own controllers! OUYA runs on android, apple tv on iOS, perfect battle!

Re: OUYA
I like the idea, and it will prolly be successful in some form. But a huge success? doubt it. Does the usual gamer want to own a console where they can play middle end games (sure there will be some good games, but there will be far between them) when most of them already own a PS3 or Xbox.
My problem with Ouya is the platform, i developed a app for Android as a part of a exam, and i did't really like the API. A Linux platform would have been great, Python, Ruby, C++, Java would like! But the steambox looks interesting!

Re: OUYA
Apple will not crush the OUYA but will be great competition that we will all benefit from. Android has nearly caught up in every aspect but also not surpassed . They are two giants that I am glad are competing on every realm.
Re: OUYA
I don't think the Ouya will go away, Apple will release something and the media will worship it. It will be a huge success. There is just alot more money behind an apple product than what is behind the Ouya and i think that will show in time. I expect Apple will do it because they have the most to immediately gain by releasing such a device. Google or another big company will probably release an Android one as well and i think in a few years the Ouya could disappear or be bought.hallsofvallhalla wrote:Apple will not crush the OUYA but will be great competition that we will all benefit from. Re: OUYA
I don't think Apple will ever expand the Apple TV to run iOS apps, even if OUYA is a moderate success (I am not expecting it to be, since it is still hard to find people who have heard of it, and this idea has been tried several times before). Apple TV, even with high-end bells and whistles would likely never go for more than $250. iPads and iPhones start around $500, and for now they are the only way people can access the App Store. So really Apple would be making their flagship products slightly less appealing by enhancing another product that is already selling decently. I just don't see a win in there anywhere for Apple.

Re: OUYA
To me, its not about watering down their products or not. But maintaing that customers stay and invest their money into the Apple ecosystem. If i bought an Ouya and spent tons of money on apps, id be more inclined to keep that investment accessible in the future and in turn continue to buy more Android products. By making an Apple TV that has playable apps, I can access all the games i currently own, and continue to buy more that could be played on future Apple devices. I think it makes sense to just create Apple alternatives to anything Android because it gives less incentive for people to jump ship.Jackolantern wrote:I don't think Apple will ever expand the Apple TV to run iOS apps, even if OUYA is a moderate success (I am not expecting it to be, since it is still hard to find people who have heard of it, and this idea has been tried several times before). As far as Apple ever developing a game ready Apple TV, there have been a lot of rumors that such a device is being worked on. But it's still speculation obviously.
