How to know how much a CPU will handle.

Hello guys, in the quest to find me a suitable college computer on the other thread, i found out this on many local stores here in portugal:

It's a 14' Ultrabook and it has some versions but the one im thinking buying is the Intel® Celeron® 1007U Dual Core CPU.

Now i've looked on a website called http://www.cpubenchmark.net and the score for this CPU is 1400.
My home pc, a i5-650 is 3100.
So more or less the half of my home pc..

The question is.. how can we know it will handle our normal activities? Is there some kind of tester / simulator?

The Celeron DualCores suck for everything but basically web browsing, and even then.............. There's no way to know for sure besides looking at the specs of the CPU

Well .. i was going to use it for that and for coding only. What specs should i take notice, only the frequency in GHz?

Yeah but i can't purchase a i7 for coding only

GHz is a big one. Also pay attention to the cores and caches. Also, for a laptop especially, look at how much power it consumes. I'd recommend a computer with an i3, or an i5 if you're going to do serious coding work on it and use graphics programs/engines.

This pc im looking at has 2mb cache.. Not sure if that's "good"

I've got a Celeron in my desktop, #1 thing I need to upgrade, and I've been saving money to upgrade it. It's bad. You don't notice the difference in those scores until you have both in your hand and you realize how bad it is.

Intel Celerons are not good... they are the lowest end (or nearly) of what Intel can offer. Think that for what you want, I would aim at having 8Gb ram, a 64bit system... and some honest CPU

What's the budget you have?

Celeron is quite old technology, I believe from before the i# days. I could also not suggest getting a Celeron.

I have around 532.28 U.S. dollars to spend on this college PC..

Here at portugal we have FNAC, Worten, Staples and others less known. Worten is local so you might not have heard of it :/ But the others i think they are multi national.

So... celeron is out .. But i don't think for my budget i can get a i#..
