Video tutorial software?

Post by OldRod »

Halls: What do you use to make your videos?

I am contemplating making a video for integrating a MySQL/PHP login page, using C# instead of Javascript, into a Unity project... never done a video before so no idea what to use :)

Of course, whether I ever post it depends on how bad my voice sounds on the video, so don't hold your breath :)

Camtasia. I like it but it is not cheap.

There are several open source, non-commercial alternatives you could try out first before shelling out cash for one. CamStudio would probably be the front-runner of that crowd, but there are several others out there including some on SourceForge.

*cof* you know what i will say *cof* :D

I worked with Camtasia, it slows down the PC... ZD Soft on the other hand doesn't, i don't even notice it's recording.
One time i was recording me modeling a 3d weapon and i forgot to shut down the recorder, i ended up recording like 8hours straight :) with me playing all sorts of games and i didn't lag a bit.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried CamStudio a couple years ago but wasn't impressed. Maybe it's improved, or maybe I just didn't use it right :)

Gotta dig up a microphone... mine seems to have disappeared in the move to the new house :(

OK, been playing around with CamStudio (latest version) and now I remember why I dropped it... my audio lags way behind my video.

Is there something I can set to fix that? Or what causes it?

I am using a Logitech Headset w/microphone to record.

Nah, I Google'd it and found a YouTube video that showed how to set the settings (I had left it all on 'auto'). It seems to be working now :)

ah, i never had to change anything. Software can be so finicky. I can do whatever with camtasia but sony vegas pro craps out. I7 extreme, 24 gig ram, 4 gig video, turtle beach headset and camtasia is fine, sony vegas pro..like trying to watch netflix on a dial up... sound and video breaks up yet on my i3 it is not nearly as bad. Makes no sense.
