A while back, I got a Logitech wireless headset/microphone to use to make some YouTube videos. When I installed it (Win 7) it disabled my computer speakers and the only way I can get them to re-enable is by uninstalling the headset and removing the USB dongle from its port. While that works, it's a pain to have to re-install/uninstall every time I want to use the headset.
Is there something I can do to make them work together better?

Re: Speaker/Headset problem
Have you tried to just remove the USB dongle? It should then switch to the computer speakers. I used FRAPS when I was recording stuff like Minecraft for any videos. I know that I use the PS3 headset for my computer and I plug in the USB receiver, it picks it up and the headset becomes the primary output. When I remove that USB receiver, the computer just changes to the standard speakers. This was through my older laptop that runs Win 7.
I apologize if it doesn't help you, maybe you just haven't noticed the behavior?

No, that's not working for me.hallsofvallhalla wrote:Can you not got to Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Manage Audio Devices then Set default back and forth?

Sharlenwar: I will try that. I have been un-installing, then taking the dongle out - maybe I just need to remove the dongle LOL

Yeah, even on my Win 8 system here that I have it does that. Let me know if that dongle trick sets it back for you. Because I know it should be able to switch, since XP I believe.

Re: Speaker/Headset problem
OK, pulled the dongle... then nothing worked and I got a horrible loud buzzing from my speakers.
Had to uninstall all my sound-related drivers and then reboot to re-install them. Now I have speakers at least
I am going to look for a different headset and see if that makes a difference before I re-install that

Re: Speaker/Headset problem
Is the USB port a powered port, or regular? Reason I ask, is some USB ports allow power to go through them when your computer is in sleep mode. Really useful for recharging those devices through your computer vs. the wall. Sometimes that could be the issue. Do you have any alternative headsets? Maybe try a different set to see if you need to get your manufacturer warranty on your current headset.

Re: Speaker/Headset problem
I picked up a new headset and it works fine. When it's plugged in, the headset works. When it's not, the speakers work. Problem solved
