Windows 8.1 => I give up

Post by a_bertrand »

Ok, I jumped on Windows 8.1 (I wasn't all that happy with 8) but now it's time for me to give up. Either re-install windows 8 or even go back to windows 7. Sorry MS but your soft is really really poor. Since I upgraded to 8.1 my PC crash at least once a day (never had any issue before). I checked the CPU, Ram, and the graphic card and they don't seems to be the issue. So for me it's simply a badly written OS which is not stable. Also there is nothing added to 8.1 where actually things like the SkyDrive doesn't work anymore as it should and a couple of things have been even removed from 8 (where it was again a lot less than 7). Here they really didn't worked well MS!

So I ordered myself a new hard-drive, and once I receive it, I will go through the painful re-installation of all my softs.... and I can tell you I have tons of them.

I am just staying on 8, which I have had no problems with. 8.1 doesn't offer much of anything to me, as I use a Start Button replacement. I am very glad that at least for now they are offering it as an optional download from the store, rather than a critical, automatic update.

Oh thank god, I haven't upgraded and i kinda felt bad, but now? No sir!!

I use pokki for start menu as Jacko i believe told me and it's awesome. Windows 8 is really fast with my I3 so i kinda like it. But i still hold my position regarding Windows 8 it's best for tablets or touch screens than normal pc's.

Glad you like Pokki! I have it on all my Windows 8 computers. :)

Really, Windows 8 feels like two totally different OS in one. Metro or "Modern" as they confusingly changed the name to, is definitely better on tablets and other touch-enabled devices. However, the Desktop mode feels much like Windows 7, and works just fine with a mouse and keyboard combo.

Yeah, my laptop has a touch screen so i really like to do scrolls and selects with it :P
But yeah im having a not bad experience with Windows 8, but i dont use it as a day-use computer, just if i need quick internet access or do some coding for college.

I never use Metro on my non-touch computers. I never even see it. The desktop mode got a lot of love in Windows 8, with the biggest security update in Windows history, working compatibility mode (finally), and many other changes.

Of course, would it be worth the money if you had to pay for it? I am not sure it would be if you were already on Windows 7.

Is there a way to completely disable Metro? Our office is going to be upgrading machines after the first of the year and we are kind of dreading Win 8 and the metro interface. For the work we do it just felt like it would get in the way so we have stuck with Win 7 so far, but new equipment with Win 7 installed is pretty much gone now.

Isn't Windows 8 like 80$? I remember that windows 7 enterprise or something a while ago in my country was 400$ ... and then they ask why people download illegally... :geek:
