Game maker and online games?
Game maker and online games?
I actually once played a game maker game with little stick man figures that was multi player.
Does anyone know how they might have done that? Unity still daunts me and I was thinking of an in between.

Game Maker Studio has pretty nice networking built-in. I don't know if I would actually make the server with GMS, even though it does offer server functionality. Rather, I would make a TCP server with node.
GMS is amazingly powerful, and all anyone who only knows Game Maker 8 or before needs to do is look at a game in their showcase section to know that the sky is really the limit with Game Maker Studio.

Thanks, Jack! And hopefully that game goes on to good things like Spelunky did, which also was originally a game maker game!

If you just check out their showcase, you can see pretty much any kind of 2D game you could think of, and most major platforms (only really lacking closed game consoles for obvious reasons). To anyone who still thinks of GM in the < GM 8 days, this ain't your granddad's Game Maker
EDIT: Oh, and we can't forget to mention the award-winning and commercially very successful Hotline Miami, which is also a direct GMS game!

Oh yeah. I remember when Cactus brought out fractal fighter way back and I was playing that. He managed to shoot up into the limelight.

Wow, didn't realize Gunpoint was made with GMS! Oh and my personal favourite, Cook, Serve and Delicious!

Hey guys,
I tried out the Game Maker Studio and I'm really taken on how easy and still so advanced it is.
I made a small intro game in _45 minutes_.
Testing out just some keyboard control and mouse interaction.
If you want to try it out, here's the download link (Yes, it might feel suspicious since it's an plain executable. I'm not forcing you to download it
But if you want to test it, you'll need to disable your mental block for this one)

Oh and, it's a Michael Jackson Simulator
(plus I did all the graphics myself!

I just can't get over the prices for versions.

Yes, it is expensive, but it does something no other tool I am aware of does: it exports native code to each platform. As nice as HTML5 wrappers for mobile are, their performance is orders of magnitude slower than native OpenGL code. There are certain designs you just can't do with HTML5, even using the best wrapper currently on the market (CocoonJS).hallsofvallhalla wrote:I just can't get over the prices for versions.
It is also much more professional than the other choices, as it has a built-in programming language that is its main focus. The other tools' focus is their drag'n'drop editors and non-programming approaches, which is limiting if you are a programmer.
