Anyone heard of this book? "Microsoft Visual C# 2013 Step by Step"
I am thinking about getting it.

I don't know it. However why not try first with the tons of free ebooks about .NET and C#? Maybe that can be enough?

Re: C# Book
Skip it. I have it laying around here somewhere, and it is so shallow and narrow it is a waste of time.
Probably the best C# book, while trying to keep the length to something humanly readable (I am looking at you "C# and the .NET Platform") would be Murach's C# 2012. The page count seems long, but every 2 pages is a pair, with the left page having the text and the right page having diagrams, notes, code samples, etc. So you can almost cut that page count in half since you won't really be reading the right pages per se. It is also one of the few books that teaches both the language fundamentals and also dives into Windows Forms applications, data access, and I think the newer ones even go into Windows 8 development. Even if you don't want to make Windows applications, it is a nice exercise in the language to learn the concepts and then see them applied and really helps out. But because of the 2 page style, you really need the printed book, or at least a PDF and a large monitor so you can configure Adobe Reader to see both pages at once. Otherwise the flipping back and forth in an epub or mobi would be awful. They would probably also destroy the formatting of the diagram pages.
I have never really found a solid free C# book. Most are either hopelessly outdated (and free because they are outdated) or they are just a mess.
