With how old that game it, you most likely just have to run it in compatibility if it doesnt run normally on Vista. They very rarely (actually, none that I know of off the top of my head) make different versions of games for XP/Vista/7. Doesn't hurt to try the download though, since you could already have it downloaded and installed instead of hunting more for a torrent..Jesusfreak wrote:Um, no, they aren't all Vista compatible. Are these "torrent" things legal?

So how do I run it in compatibility?D3luxe wrote:With how old that game it, you most likely just have to run it in compatibility if it doesnt run normally on Vista. Also, I heard of something called a "Virtual PC" and a "dos-box" that I was told might help, what are those and where do I get them?

Thanks for the link, but what exactly IS a dos-box? What does it do?Perry wrote:http://www.dosbox.com/ <--- dosbox, but i dont think it will help it is a dos emulator and civ 2 isn't a dos game is it?Jesusfreak wrote:So how do I run it in compatibility?D3luxe wrote: With how old that game it, you most likely just have to run it in compatibility if it doesnt run normally on Vista. its an emulator which i dont know how to explain but i will try. It would make you be able to run programs for a certain operating system on another OS by emulating that operating system. so basically it provides whatever a dos program would need to run.Jesusfreak wrote:Thanks for the link, but what exactly IS a dos-box? Hmm, ok.
So what about Virtual PCs? From what I know, they're free and basically a PC within your PC, which can be any version you want. So for example, I have a Vista laptop, but I could run this program which would act like, say, a Windows 98 PC, and I can store files and stuff in it just like I could with my Vista.
Or at least, that's what I understand of it =/.
Where can I get that?

Ok, I've tried the one I downloaded from Rapidshare, it doesn't work either. I tried running them in compatibility mode, that doesn't work either.
Any other ideas?

Re: Are these "torrent" things legal?
If downloading it didn't work, why would buying it again be any different? It's probably not even sold outside of sites like ebay anymore.
But meh, I found a solution to the problem at hand: The game only crashes when I press the hotkey to build cities. I can do it the long way just fine, it seems.

Re: Are these "torrent" things legal?
Well this isn't really the problem you described at the start, you said before that it crashes when you try to build a city, not that it crashes when you hotkey. It could just be a corrupt file, maybe uninstall using the disc then reinstall using the disc again, it might help.
