Is it just me or should SEGA stick to making Sonic games...

Post by neronix17 »

Seriously, I just watched my step-dad play Bayonetta, and a few weeks ago played Stormrise. Both made by SEGA and both reasons for the company shriveling up and dying. Stormrise itself shouldnt have been allowed on store shelves as it is honestly that crap. Bayonetta I have only watched and was not impressed. The gameplay was average at best and is mostly looking like a DMC clone, the fact they can change a 60ft golden axe to a 6ft golden axe you can use instantaneously when you kill the guy makes the game even worse for realism (which is pretty non-existant). The chat between characters has the chracters like still images without them moving at all while talking. The music is so unbelievably horrible I wanted to mute it.

Back to my point though. SEGA F*** You.

P.S. I censored the end since I wanted to be clean and couldnt think of anything nicer to say :)

Bayonetta is awesome! I just added a review a few minutes ago for it to the review section.

If anything, Sega needs to stop making Sonic games. They have all been pretty much universally trashed ever since Sonic left the Genesis. The only good, highly-rated Sonic game made in the last 10+ years was actually the RPG made by Bioware (the one on DS).

Now Im pretty sure you are my step-dad secretly  thats pretty much what he said but I had no idea Bioware had a game on the DS! Must go find it now...I kind of meant that SEGA did better with 2d scrollers than 3d clones of DMC, and Im pretty sure the lady in it has a mans voice when using the sword  maybe the 2nd tranny in gaming

Anyway, either SEGA need to try harder with little details in cutscenes and stuff like that or just stop making games completely. Have you played or even seen Stormrise?

No, I never even heard of Stormrise. I typically stay away from Sega games, as I definitely give you the point that Sega has been making awful games for a while (only difference is that I include Sonic in that list  )....Wow! Check out Stormrise on GameSpot lol! That is the Sega crap I am used to. That is why I was so shocked by Bayonetta. However, Sega is just the publisher. The only other AAA title Platinum Games (the makers of Bayonetta) have made is Mad World on the Wii, which is another super-stylish game (but I don't think it was all that great).

And I think Bayonetta is much better than Devil May Cry. DMC was not original, either, it just took the old beat'em'up games that really started with Final Fight and SNK and moved them to 3D. They definitely don't have claim on the formula ;) . Most of the DMC games were also pretty mediocre, mostly pushing big sales based on hype and nostalgia of the first one.

EDIT: The DS Bioware Sonic game is called Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood if I remember right. It is an RPG :)

Still to do with SEGA, if SEGA is on the box I stay away.

Im not saying DMC is good or original, Im just saying its pretty much DMC with a new story and skin on it.

I love RPG's and as far as I know Bioware only make RPG's, which they are bloody good at doing, most of their games are very similar in gameplay but if you have a working formula u stick to it :D Im curious to see how they do with an MMORPGFPS though, The Old Republic is looking pretty awsome from what Ive seen, I just hope it doesnt go tits up like Star Wars Galaxies, like ditching the one good staff member and stopping the game from ever changing, more happened in SWG's first year than it has in the 5 years since they got rid of the expansion packs and only went for publish add-ons (small and pretty pathetic ones too). They only added 2 damn planets to the list and that was with the expansion packs.

EDIT: I got a little carried away with myself at the end there sorry

Sega stick to sonic games!?!? They butchered them up pretty badly. I hope they leave Sonic alone, or make one good game and end the onslaught. I still play the Sega Genesis Sonic Games on my Sega

I wish they would make an amazing 2D Sonic game on the XBox 360 and PS3. It could move lightning fast with incredibly detailed sprites and tons of powerful 2D effects. Sonic only worked in 2D.

Exactly what Im meaning, 2d side scrollers were the best if you didnt have long to play.

By sticking to Sonic I meant before the 3d ones which I personally dont even class as games because they are that horrible.

It seemed the tried to fit in the NextGeneration Category by adding cool 3d angles, and wild city scenery. I hope they relized it isn't working. They probably think its working but the games are selling alone on the fact that they are sonic. Which is slowly falling

The more I think about it, the more I would really love to see a proper 2D Sonic game with cutting edge graphics on the 360 and PS3. It seems like a lot of commercial developers think that 2D has not had many technological improvements since the PS1 days or before and that everything has to be 3D, but that is very wrong. All it takes is a look at any of the current-gen Capcom fighting games and how fast and pretty they are. I would love to see a frantic, blazing fast, glitzy 2D Sonic game.

The bottom line is that 3D is not working for Sonic, and something needs to change. I would just hope that change is not retiring the hedgehog for good.
