iPod touch/Iphone game

Post by Baseball435 »

Well I was thinking about all the people who have iPod touch and iPhones out there. I know I do because I am typing this on it. Well we are all programmers here and I thought maybe we should get a team and try and build a iPod touch/iPhone application. I thought of it being a free online multiplayer game, practically an mmorpg, where you own a city and you get resources and gold. There would be other people with other cities and they would be put at random when they register. And there would be a map tab like area to look at all the other people in the game and you could go attack them or join forces with them. Over time you could build new places and make your city stronger. Just an idea. Any comments on this?

You must have a MAC to make IPhone, IPod or IPad games, period. Whether you use the direct SDK and Objective-C, Unity or Torque. I don't know how many people around here have a Mac, because I know I don't. Also, while it seems like a nice platform at first, the massive amount of applications available for it makes it very hard to stand out from the pack. There are tons of low-cost commercial quality games on there, so I don't know how many people are looking for indie wares.

Oh ok. Yeah I looked at xcode a couple months ago and it was only for mac. And actually you are wrong. Flash Mx CS5 included the ability to create iPhone ipad and iPod touch apps on windows. It's the most efficient way to make itouch and iPhone apps on windows

But the I<blank> series does not have a Flash player. How are they run? I will have to look into this.

EDIT: Ahhh, your right. Interesting. That is definitely new in CS5.

EDIT2: It appears Adobe and the IPhone community finally broke down Apple to include a Flash player for Iphone OS.

True, but it is still less than a lot of other game engines.

Nope. After CS5 was launched, apple banned it in their license agreement:
3.3.1 — Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C, C++, and Objective-C may compile and directly link against the Documented APIs (e.g., Applications that link to Documented APIs through an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool are prohibited).
Source (or google "flash cs5 iphone banned" for more): http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/08/adobe-flash-apple-sdk/

And a few days later adobe announced they will no longer develop flash-to-iphone: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/ado ... to-iphone/

So you still need Mac to develop apps for iPhone. (except for jailbroken once ofc). But on the other hand, who would wanna develop apps for a platform with a company that don't give a shit about the developers apparently? :P

amen Falken... Stick with PC and PC will stick with you. Well more often than a Mac. The only thing that sticks with you from a Mac is the bill and the smelly keyboards. Anyone e er ordered parts from Mac? They smell so damned bad. Like underarm stink from a 600lbs man who had to run through the desert of Mexico.
