Contest idea.

Post by n04h »

Alright, so when I joined the fourm I noticed that there was a contest that had happened. Anyway my idea is to have another contest but for this one contestants get 1 week to do final preparations to there game and than are judged. But the main part of my idea would be that the winner is awarded the V.I.P rank on the fourm so people have a reason to enter. Well that's just a thought, leave you ideas on this in the comment section.

Would be neat to throw another contest, yes. But final say would have to go to Halls.

Though figuring most people are not a final prep for their game and would make this hard for them, OR would push to get it to that point. Maybe something a little different, but could be included. Jack, LKH or Halls, your opinion?

I think the problem with the last contest WAS the short time frame. Because so many people are doing other things, planning and implementing something that they feel confident about submitting. So i think a longer time frame and maybe a theme or a genre that the contest could be based on would be cool.

Also i wouldn't mind helping out with prizes.

Fully completed games are kind of a problem as far as contests go. You either have to: A. do a really short turn-around time and put up with only a couple of entries (like last contest), or B. Go long term (months) and hope that people remember it is going on (it is hard to keep people pumped about a contest when nothing happens with it for 3 - 6 months lol).

I would like to see something something of maybe a bit smaller scope so that more people can enter. Maybe a "best Javascript effect", "best singular script", or "best web design" contest (with the latter only dealing with the design, no content concerns). Basically something that someone could put together in just a week or so, and something a bit smaller to hopefully get more of the community involved.

I would have to agree with this. If it was a website design, it would have to be their own coded site, not something like Joomla or Wordpress setup. I only say that because you never know. But that is true with the latter.

Well, if a months long comp got the same number of entries as a short comp - kind of the same thing. If the idea of a comp is to get people out of analysis paralysis and actually get a game completed (problem, anyone?) then the short entry time makes sense.
