Okay, figured this was just as good of a place to put this as I wasn't sure what category to post this.
So, the business of games. Halls, you invited me back to the community here and for that I am very appreciative. I'm wondering what all of the community does to earn themselves a living? Post up here with a basic overview of what you do to earn money. If you are a student, in school (college or even jr/high school), then you don't need to post unless it gives insight as to providing an income.
For a bit of background, I personally am 33 years old and currently work at a resort in the accounting department. My job is consistent, repetitive, and doesn't stimulate my brain what so ever. I'm efficient at my job and there are moments throughout the work shift where I can find my mind wandering to work out ideas and still being able to do the job. As for why I need to make a living, well I have a mortgage, car payments, phone bills, cable/internet, etc. I also have a family, so a wonderful wife and two fantastic children. So time for me is extremely limited and so has to be managed appropriately.
Post up with something describing how you earn a living. Legitimate sources of course, and the money needs to be consistent so that you can live a life. Show us a brief window into your life for the purpose of this exercise. I'm mostly wondering what sort of people are here in the community.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to any and all comments.

Re: Games, Life, Money...
I am 31 years old, and I am a manager at a data center. I monitor servers all day and rotate tapes in and out of tape libraries when needed. For example of a type of tape, look up LTO4 and type of library, one is an SL8500. One of the types I deal with, also monitor 16 consoles that are displayed on 4 different monitors on the wall, for any backup failures that may occur. I have 2 people who work under me who do the tape rotating while I watch a ticket queue and everything else. If everything is quiet I sit back working on the programming project they have me doing, an in-house enterprise wide management system or I am working on my book. And if I am bored with those, I turn on Netflix. Job is pretty laid back, as long as things get done. End of day (EOD) I have several reports I have to get complete before I can leave

@SpiritWebb: You seem to have a different job so to speak. Very interesting and thanks for posting. You don't realize how much this helps to see these sort of posts.

I am a full-time college student (studying Computer Science), and work a pretty menial job on the side. I also sometimes do some basic freelance web development jobs (server-side and client-side code, no design) and sometimes work with databases as well. Normalizing, trying to fix corrupted tables, etc.

Re: Games, Life, Money...
very interesting topic, great to see what all everyone does in their "real" jobs. Amazing what brings people of different walks of life together.
I am 33(I think)..born in Oct 1978..(counts on fingers) yeah 33. I work for one of the largest call center companies in the world. We handle everything from 911 system to Power companies to all the major cell phone customer services to the main mortgage companies to banks to healthcare to insurance and list goes on.
I am a Dialer Manager Supervisor. I handle, build, maintain, the dialing systems that dial out to customers and route the incoming calls. I also build the strategy around this. How a dialer should dial, the times to call, the methods, the agent strategy. I also build reporting around all of the metrics around the calls and the agent status's. My job ranges from supervision of all of the dialer team to building reports to analyze and build easier to read reports from raw data that I export from several databases to programming logic block and VBA style coding in the dialer systems and inbound systems to implementation of new clients and strategy to help revenue. I am responsible for several million calls a day along with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of calls and strategy on a daily basis. Hence my escape from the world with my games, hence my scatter brained mind

Re: Games, Life, Money...
I'm 20 year old student, trying to save up for rent so I can do my next course, however I always manage to toke up any money I make. I do anything for money, and I mean anything. Currently I've been placed in a programming job by my college(?), which earns horse shìt with a few flies on-top, but it's more about learning than anything. I'm also working as a delivery guy again, riding around on scooters delivering hot fresh food, I simply love aggravating other fellow road users when I'm on a scooter, nothing better than going the wrong way around a roundabout, or overtaking everyone on the footpath. I also do some freelance work, like making websites and all that good stuff.
Personally love computer games and game development, if it wasn't for games I most likely would have never used a computer. When I play games, I only ever try to figure out how the game is put together rather than actually play it, it kind of sucks. My dad is a musician and he is the exact same, he can't just sit down and listen to someone play the piano, to him listening to music is a constant quest to figure it out.
It has always been in my nature to have to break everything apart to find out how it works or put it to a different use. I remember when I was eight or nine and my parents got me this RC robot, I stripped the thing apart two hours after I got it, it annoyed me that I couldn't figure out how the arms went up and down, the problem was at that age I never had the patience to put the things back together again.
As for my love life, it's a wreck, I went through hell last summer so I decided to give having a girlfriend a break. I also have terrible difficulty having a girlfriend and not go after other women when I have the chance, I always manage to make my girlfriend jealous and I'm really bad at dealing with arguments. How do you guys cope? My hormone production isn't really what you would call normal either, I used to take part in swimming and Jiu-Jitsu competitions and love working out in the gym, started using anabolic steroids when I was 16. When I'm not on a cycle I tend to be decent enough, nothing more than a quick temper. But when I'm on I'm like a kid in a candy shop, my Fridays and Saturdays end as one night stands, emotionless sex is fun at the start, getting the top score between my mates is what drives it I guess. But sometimes it can leave you with a rather uncomfortable feeling of guilt.
I guess you could sum me up as a junkie a nerd and a total jerk. But heh.. I gave up trying to please others a long time ago.

I also love to do work outs but not in the gym anymore, i started in a weight lifting club 3,5 years ago and made experience with many different training strategies , at the moment i try body weight work out, cause gym would take to much of my free time.
u still take theses roids?(decreasing the dosis would decrease your hormone level xD - but i dont have to tell you that)
