Flash

Post by SpiritWebb »

Alright, not sure if this post is to go here...if not, well it can be moved! ;)

Anyway, I'm wanting to know if anyone here knows Flash pretty good. I have upgraded to Flash MX 2004 and wanting to know how to make a HUD (Heads Up Display).

Anyone know how to do this?

Didn't know you could upgrade to legacy versions.

Yes, it is possible with the disc version. With a disc upgrade, you can upgrade to whatever version you have. If not a disc, that is kind of surprising that you were able to upgrade.

I have the discs. So, yeah.

Anyway, I'm learning Actionscript and PHP together alongside MySql & Flash. Hopefully, Agent will see this. I will post about the game we are working on later, as we work out the details, gameplay and I get some screens for ya.

Either way, in flash I need help figuring how to do the HUD and a few others. As I haven't messed with flash before!

Do you have prior experience coding in another language? It sounds like you may be spreading yourself too thin if not. Flash is a complex program to learn, Actionscript is a full-featured scripting language, and PHP is pretty complex as well. There will be some bleed-over between AS and PHP, but only the basic language constructs. MySQL is not all that difficult to learn, although it can take time to learn how to use it most efficiently. Just be sure you are not working at becoming a jack of all trades, but master of none.

The only exp in another language I have is, yeah its old...qbasic, a little dark basic, little pascal and very little in C++. Most of mine that I know is HTML.

I know I have a long way ahead of me in learning...and I have no problem taking the time in learning. Where I know most people who try, would be like its too much work, blah, im done. I'm not that way, nervous and admit a little scared, but i dont care...just looking for help in places I might get confused at, thats how i found myself here.

Yeah sure this can be done pretty easily. Although it depends on what the HUD is for?
- Is it a health bar? etc?

Aslong as Flash MX 2004 supports actionscript 2.0 - then it should be fine.

If your HUD is going to be a health bar - I have a few ways of doing it in mind - I will try and put something together and send you the .fla

#Agent

Yeah, Flash MX 2004 supports AS2, its what I used before CS4 :D

EDIT: In fact I think MX 2004 is basically Macromedia Flash 8 under a different name, Ive used both and they look exactly the same and have the same features.
