Pokemon

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

Okay my 6 year old daughter has been playing Pokemon Pearl for DS for 2 days straight. She is truly addicted. Sad thing though is she accidently went to the public area where you can trade and fight pokemons via internet and some person took all her pokemons in a trade. She cried for hours. She is rebuilding but regardless it is amazing how addictive the game is for her.

Considering how many very young players Pokemon has, it is kind of surprising that they let someone take your pokemon so easily. I would have figured it would have been more like an MMO where each time someone takes something you have to create and accept a trade. That isn't very good forward-thinking on their part :|

Yeah it was a simple drag and drop type of thing. Really ticked me off but she is rebuilding them all.

there is a lot to learn about fun game design by playing pokemon. Would recommend anyone to play it for the simple designs that make it addictive.

To me, the Pokemon design is quite simple. It basically just hits the human collecting instinct and hits it hard by giving the collectibles a virtual "valuable" function. Beyond that, it is a pretty by-the-numbers RPG. But what it does, it does quite well.
